Happy Holidays Everyone!!

We have gotten off to a great start this fall in PE!

Elementary students have been working hard on spacial and movement concepts, kicking skills, jumping and landing skills, small sided games, cooperative activities, and behavioral and interpersonal skills related to sportsmanship.

Middle schoolers have been busy as well.  We got off to a great start with our fall soccer units.  Students were engaged and active participants in skill reviews and game dynamics.  We have also completed our first trimester fitness testing with special attention to health-related components of fitness and how to calculate heart rates.  More work to come though.  We are now starting a short basketball unit that will take us into the Christmas break.

Here's wishing all of you a safe and Happy Holiday season!

Spring into Action

Happy Spring!!!

It is so nice to see things starting to green up and blossoms start to pop!

K-2 PE is currently working on racquet and paddle skills. We are learning our forehand, backhand, overhand, and underhand swings.  Soon we will move onto batting and other baseball/softball related skills.

Grades 3/4 are also working with paddles and racquets, learning specific shots related to badminton.  Striking skills with long and short handled implements can be a challenge at times. Students are engaged and having fun!

Middle schoolers are competing in racquet and paddle sports.  They will be learning and playing badminton, pickleball, and ping-pong games.

Time is getting short and the rain is keeping us inside for now. Hopefully we will dry out and get outside later this month!!

March

Feb. 28, 2017

Spring is just around the corner.  And we have plenty to do until it gets here!

The PE classes have been working with a student teacher for the past 8 weeks. Brett Chappell, a student from the University of Maine, has been leading our classes as he completes his undergraduate work.

During the month of March, we will be sharing our space with the drama production.  We will be using our reduced space for some physical fitness, manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination activities (juggling and cup-stacking) and introducing a new activity in the middle school, Spikeball.

Looking forward to warmer temps, buds on the trees, the return of the birds, flowers in bloom, and the smell of Spring!

Happy New Year from Center Drive PE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With snowy, salty, wintery conditions and the need for warm jackets and snow boots, please remember to check your student's schedule for PE days.   It is important for students to remember their sneakers on PE days.  It is unsafe to participate in big, clumsy snow-boots and the student's feet get really hot from the boot insulation.  Please remember sneakers on PE days!!

January PE activities:

K-2:  Introduction to bowling skills

3-4: Bowling skills and introduction to scoring

5-8:  Volleyball skills and games
